• Ardee comes alive with a weekend of glorious music

    Whether you’re an avid baroque enthusiast or a lover of music seeking entertainment, Ardee Baroque offers three days of outstanding music from world class musicians. Opening this Friday 22 November at 7:30pm in St Mary’s Abbey, mezzo soprano Sharon Carty presents her acclaimed Suitcase Arias, an evening of delightful, show-stopping arias from the 17th and 18th century, including Gluck’s Che Faro senza Euridice and Addio, addio o miei sospiri “Carty showed layers of colour in her voice and acting ability and the evening provided the audience with more than just beautiful arias but also an informative and immersive early music experience.” The Journal of Music review of Suitcase Arias May 2019At last year’s festival, the standing ovation for Musici Ireland’s concert was immediate and accompanied by whoops and cheers. They return on Saturday 23 November at 7:30pm for an evening of well-known and loved baroque hits including Handel’s Trumpet Suite, Corelli’s Christmas Concerto plus Vivaldi’s virtuosic Concerto for Two Trumpets featuring Crispian Steele-Perkins and Niall O’Sullivan.Malcolm Proud has long associations with the Festival and is back on Sunday 24 November at 4pm with his orchestra Camerata Kilkenny for a performance of works that blend baroque and traditional music. They will be joined by uilleann piper David Power for Carolan’s Concerto amongst others.Non music events include Lit Lab poetry reading in Ardee Library at 2pm on Saturday plus a pre-concert talk by Dr James O’Brien Moran on the links between baroque and the bagpipe. Both these events are free.
